The swastika (sanskrit Svasti) is a beautiful thing if taken in the right context. Since Hitler used it to symbolize his NAZI Party weak minded people and ignorant people have branded it as evil. Nothing could be further from the truth.
AS a symbol of love faith and good luck it is worn under clothing by more people than it is imagined. I am a little different as I wear it under and over depending on the wether.
We should take it back and have it recognised for what it realy is.
I look forward to reading this website regularly.
I see a dark side of “freedom of speech” here.

Ok, so…
1 we should ban the cross out of respect for the millions of people murdered, burnt at a stake, tortured in the name of it; entire cultures were eradicated, see latin America.
2 we should ban the Israeli star out of respect for the countless Arabs and Palestinians killed, evicted or otherwise victims in its name.
3 we should ban the American flag out of respect for the countless Japanese, Vietnamese, Native Americans who were murdered in its name.
Do we agree that an unjustly murdered person is…an unjustly murdered person or is there a pecking order?
I am sure most will consider the above proposals absurd…think again…entire cultures/nations were eradicated in the name of the above.

I see the meaning of both forms of svastica were discused here. So why infos in “symbolism” are *still8 the same as they were? Does author thinks that his explaination is the only true and correct one?

Yes the symbol have been used by a idiot… and now it is time to take it back.. But as a note to you “pinetree “.. You say it is a symbol of death etc.. Yes it is that for the moment.. and so was the cross for millions before too.. and what about the symbols for a muslim today?.. What ever have been can be undone. And i think its time to take back the positive meaning in all the symbols we have. Millions died during WW2…. and we wont forget that.. But why not selebrate them by making something bad in to something good like it ones was.
Whatever it used to mean is not what this symbol stands for now.

I learned about the swastika’s true meanings around the same time I was learning about WWII and Hitler in school. After finding out as much as possible, I branded the right-facing (?) swastika into the forearm of my left arm, and have been proudly showing it off since. I have had many problems with certain individuals because they thought it was there for malicious reasons. I’ve told them all the same thing. ‘I am a peaceful being who wants the right to mark or adorn their body as any other person. I do not hate anyone who does not bring hatred or cruelty into others’ lives. If you are in that category then maybe you have a reason to be upset.’ I was thinking of covering it with a tattoo of a different version of a swastika with other decorations so people can differentiate but why? If close-minded people can look at it and think it was a hateful symbol born in Germany then I’ll tell them the same thing every time and they’ll be the ignorant ones, not I.

Hi All,
I am happy to find this site as I believe that this ancient and revered symbol should not be stained by its extremely brief Nazi use. It has a rich and varied history that should be understood and promoted in the interest of peace and understanding. To ban its use is giving in to the fascist state that stood for all that is opposite to the tenets of the religions and cultures that have used this symbol for thousands of years.
I read in the previous post that the anticlockwise version represents a negative aspect. To counter that, I found this on Wikipedia:
The symbol as it is used in Buddhist art and scripture is known in Japanese as a manji (literally, “the character for eternality” ??), and represents Dharma, universal harmony, and the balance of opposites. When facing left, it is the omote (front) manji, representing love and mercy. Facing right, it represents strength and intelligence, and is called the ura (rear) manji. Balanced manji are often found at the beginning and end of Buddhist scriptures (outside India).

If we are to learn anything from the mistakes of world history, surely it is to promote greater understanding of others’ beliefs and cultures, not to hide them!

And then that,
‘He then went on to warn those present not to use the negative swastika, explaining that it brings total annihilation, while the positive swastika brings total victory.’
But here I would like to draw your attention to the Yungdrung Bön tradition that is 18’000 years old and still intact today as a valid spiritual path. It had used the ‘negative’ swastika for a long time, but readers may get the impression that something like Yungdrung Bön is an evil or negative cult, which is naturally not the case.
It’s silly to think a swastika one way or the other really changes its effects. I’d take out the comment of this if it were me, and I would suggest that you do so to avoid misunderstanding for people who come on this website.

wow, how ignorant some people are. the swastika is a symbol of peace and love. the nazi’s couldn’t think of their own symbol, so they decided to smash the reputation of one of the most beautiful and peaceful symbols in the world. thanks a fucking lot. now, peacful, religious, people are being falsely thought of as a member of a group based on hate. how very sadly ironic. ? peace, love, and harmony?
Now I’ve been getting a lot of mail about the use of Swastikas in the Philippines. Just to make things clear Swastikas really have no negative meaning in the Philippines. Strangely enough, many people don’t realize that the Swastika was a religious symbol long before it was a symbol for the Nazi party. The people displaying Swastikas on their sidecars may very well be Buddhist, Hindu, or Jainists, as the Swastika is a symbol used in those religions and yes they do exist in the Philippines. Just an addition, there are several Chinese temples in Cebu City itself. In one particular Chinese temple they use Swastika symbols. It is found near the Reclamation area or just behind the old White Gold establishment. I hope the temple is still there. The area is a bit rough and not a good place to be at night.
In Europe both wariants of svastica have positive meaning. Why you don’t write about that? You present left-svastika only as negative. Why?

The wounds of the Jewish people will not heal as long as racism still exist, The American Neo-Nazi’s do a good job of bringing back the painful memories of the holocaust. i got alot of trouble also for wearing the Buddhist Swastika symbol especially from the jewish people. Alot of Native Americans also used the Swastika symbol also.
this is rediculous. the nazis couldnt even think of their own symbol, instead they stole the idea of the swazi from the hindu form meaning purity, and angled it. neo-nazis also stole the skinhead look from the skinhead-mod scene of the 1960 in london. just goes to show you how much many people love to think for themselves.
